Crime and Injustice

Moses Ssendawula, 41, shot in south-east London park

Moses Ssendawula

Just before 1.00am on Saturday 8 September, 41-year-old community worker, Moses Ssendawula was shot and killed by suspected robbers in Burgess Park, Camberwell. A post-mortem examination revealed his cause of death as a gunshot wound to the back which subsequently penetrated his heart and lungs.

Moses had come to the UK from Uganda in 1989 and studied at Croydon College. He was interested in journalism, photography and film and spent much of his time as a community worker working with young people. His cousin, Tony Ntege said: "He used to encourage them not to get involved in drugs and respect their elders. He was someone who was easy to talk to and would listen if someone was in trouble."
