16-year-old Jonathan Matondo shot in the head in Sheffield

On Wednesday 17 October at approximately 7.30pm, Congo born Jonathan Matondo was shot in the head in Nottingham Cliff park in Burngreave, Sheffield. Prior to his murder, he had been with a group of young people who were seen running away from a gang of hooded men with guns. They ended up in the park after dark when the group spotted a red laser light aimed in their direction before shots were fired and Jonathan collapsed to the ground.
The teenager, who had come to the UK with his parents from the Congo when he was 2 years old, was a regular church goer. Reverend Jack Kinsiona from the Light of Christ Church said: '[Jonathan] told me two months ago he wanted to be a preacher and I saw him many times in my office… Jonathan was not a bad person he was a very very good person.'
18-year-old Negus Nelson from Margate Drive in Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, has been charged with Jonathan’s murder.
