Zimbabwe: Million Woman & Man March

On Friday 30 November, Zimbabwean veterans of the liberation war against British colonialism, organised hundreds of thousands of Zimbabwean women and men to march and rally in a show of support for President Robert Mugabe's candidature for the March 2008 elections. The marchers convened on Zimbabwe Grounds from all 10 Zimbabwean provinces, reminiscent of the historic gathering that took place in 1980 to welcome home the freedom fighters and exiled political leaders just prior to independence. March organiser and war veterans' leader, Jabulani Sibanda is quoted as saying "Comrade Mugabe is our leader, and we are prepared to wage another war to defend his leadership and our sovereign right to choose our own revolutionary leader."
