Zimbabwe: Ian Smith dies, at last!

On 20th November, Ian Smith the mass murder and rebel leader of the tyrannical right-wing Rhodesia regime (1965 – 1979), died at the age of 88. Smith who stated "I don't believe in black majority rule over Rhodesia … not in a thousand years” committed multiple acts of genocide against the indigenous Zimbabweans that resulted in the massacre of tens of thousands of people.

Zimbabwean deputy information minister, Bright Matonga summed up the views of many Zimbabweans and Africans when he succinctly responded to the news of Smith’s death: “Good riddance”.
