Abukar Mahamud, 16, shot and killed in Stockwell

Abukar Mahamud

On Thursday 26th July, teenager Abukar Mahamud was killed after being shot in the neck at the Stockwell Gardens Estate. It is believed that he was being chased by approximately six young people on bicycles with bandanas covering their faces before one of them fired a single bullet into his neck.

Abukar had three brothers Mahamed, 17, Mahamud, 14, and Hassan, 13. His mother, Mulki Ahmen, 42, said; "Around here, there are a lot of boys that are very bad. Abukar was not like that. Abukar was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Abukar was a pupil at Stockwell Park High School and had just been accepted into Lambeth College where he intended to study science and English.

20-year-old David Taitt appeared at Camberwell Green County on 28 July 2007 charged with murdering Abukar. However, the charge was later dropped after the Crown Prosecution Service decided that there was "insufficient evidence to proceed with the case" against Taitt.
