James Andre Smartt-Ford, 16, shot dead in south London

James Andrew Smartt-Ford was shot twice outside the Streatham Ice Rink at approximately 11pm on 3 February 2007. He managed to stagger onto the ice rink populated by around 300 young people where he collapsed from his injuries. He was taken to a south London hospital where he was pronounced dead. Following the shooting, seven teenagers were arrested and subsequently bailed.
Following this and subsequent murders, a number of politicians came out to make soundbite announcements. David Cameron stated that ‘gang culture’ could be curbed if there were more powers to compel fathers to look after their children. Tony Blair retorted; "It's a specific problem and a specific criminal culture among a specific group of people."
