Africans bad, europeans good

A CMS workshop which allegedly aims to recreate the conditions of the middle passage

As part of the BBC’s Abolition Season, Radio 4 broadcasted a programme in which the Anglican Church Mission Society (CMS) attempted to rewrite history by asserting that in the history of slavery, Africans were the ‘bad, greedy slave traders’ and europeans the 'benevolent liberators' and abolitionists.

The programme, which was broadcast on 19 February, focused on a ‘Free for All’ workshop that took place in Chelmsford and was due to run throughout the year nationwide. CMS, who have links to the 1799 Clapham Sect founded by the pro colonisation advocate, William Wilberforce, have been lambasted by many within the African community who have stated that their work not only disenfranchises children but perpetuates myths and half truths without any contextualisation.

The organisation unashamedly boast about their vision of christian imperialism through which they aim to transform the world by the love of Jesus and see their doctrine mirrored in every culture.
