Paediatrician Victoria Anyetei stabbed to death in car

Dr Victoria Anyetei

On the morning of 14th August, the body of 53-year-old Dr Victoria Anyetei was discovered by her 20-year-old son, Andrew, in her car outside their house in Dartford, Kent. Dr Anyetei, who was a locum at St Thomas’ Hospital in London had been repeatedly stabbed by her attacked who police believe may have lain in wait for her inside her car. A post-mortem later revealed that she died from the stab wounds to her upper body. Dr Anyetei was a divorcee and devout Christian who had moved from Ghana to England in 1996.

21-year-old David Quartey from Dartford, who has been charged with her murder, pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court where a trial date has been set for 14 July 2008. Quartey had come to Britain from Ghana two years ago and had previously lived with Dr Anyetei. Gilbert Anyeteu, Dr Anyetei’s brother said; "David is the son of Victoria's best lifelong friend. His parents, they live permanently in Ghana, but David wanted to come to England for education. Victoria was like a mother to him and I am deeply shocked that he has been arrested. He is not a relation but he is like family. They were as close as family."

Dr Frances Flinter, of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, said "[Victoria] was also the sort of doctor that parents instinctively have faith in and she will be very sadly missed by her patients, their parents and her colleagues."
